With a youth unemployment rate at around 60%, young Greeks have been called the ‘crisis generation’ with many choosing to leave the cities and move abroad causing a brain drain. This leads to an ageing population and a declining birth rate that is causing major social issues. The youth is revolting and are turning to extreme political views on both ends of the spectrum with Syriza and Golden Dawn. With a newly elected Syriza in government and uncertainty around the country’s EU membership, it is difficult to say what the future will bring for the young population of Greece.
