Even though several attempts to put a stop to the increasing number of tourists have already been made, people are still going to Venice.
Every year, 30 million people are travelling to experience the real Venice. But Venice today isn’t what it used to be. Only 50,000 people live in the historic city because it’s simply too expensive and inaccessible to for ordinary Venetians to lead their lives there. The city center is full of tourist and the old fish market and the local butcher have been replaced by souvenir shops and restaurants.
Euroviews travelled to Venice to find out why people are still coming in huge numbers, and to look into why the young people doesn’t see a future for themselves in the city
