True: Chinese sources are spreading disinformation on the spread of COVID-19 across Europe

Europe is facing economic challenges due to the spread of COVID-19 across the continent. EU-politicians are warning for Chinese trying to take advantage of the current situation weakening the economy and status of the EU with the aim to gain economic assets and influence. In their publications MEPS and media-platforms are specifically mentioning China as a source of disinformation on the spread of Corona-virus in Europe.

Earlier this month, on April 12th, Margrethe Vestager, the executive vice-president of the European Commission gave an interview to the financial times, “European countries should buy stakes in companies to stave off the threat of Chinese takeovers, the EU competition chief has said, as Brussels steps up plans to protect businesses fighting for survival during the Covid-19 pandemic.”

Uncheckable: 50,000 tests were planned and performed in nursing homes during the week of April 13 to 19

On Sunday, April 19, Olivier Véran, French Health Minister, said in a press conference that “This week, 50,000 tests were planned and administered in nursing homes.” But 50 000 might seem like a large number solely for nursing homes, and given the importance of these tests – especially for the elderly – it is necessary to verify if 50,000 of them were given in one week.
